Green Technologies: WaterIt seems that the world is finally discovering how precious of a resource that water truly is in
our lives and perhaps we won't take it for granted in the future. Although our site has a ground water well (dug courtesy of our friends of Big
Iron Drilling in Edmonton) the well only pumps out at ½ gallon per minute.
Since water is a precious resource, we're going to be developing methods to both collect rain water as it comes off of our roof and also re-use our water in the house by diverting shower and other "gray" water towards other uses such as toilets. By "recycling" our water within the house we can decrease by half the strain put on our ground water and extend the useful life of our well. Rain Water CollectionWe're just now starting to learn about rain water collection but plan to have cisterns on
site to collect rainwater which we will use as our outdoor water source for vegetation and
outside hoses. Because of the low water output from our well, we feel the need to look for alternative sources of water. As our rainwater collection system progresses we'll update this section and share with you our experiences.
In the meantime, we've listed some links on this page that we've found to be helpful in gathering
information. |
