Mafco House (www.Mafcohouse.com) - Dan and Diane Molenaar
Using proven architectural, engineering and construction practices, MAFCOHOUSE designs and builds each house with environmental sensitivity. Whether on or off the grid, the building's orientation to the sun’s path with sensitive vegetation management will benefit from passive solar heat gain during the cooler season. The placement of operable windows and doors on all elevations allows cross breezes to naturally keep the building cool during the warmer season.

Gordon Howell
Solar Power System Specialist, Howell-Mayhew Engineering
Gordon established Howell-Mayhew Engineering in Edmonton in 1985 to provide solar electricity, solar heating, and home builder energy efficiency consulting services, based on the challenge of finding ways to use energy wisely without damaging our environment at the same time. Gordon's focus in the last 10 years has been on identifying and resolving barriers to connecting solar power systems to the utility grid, and working with people to get their own solar systems. He is a member of two international committees that write standards for solar power systems and so has exposure to the issues and solutions in other countries. Gordon lives in an energy efficient house that uses 60% less natural gas than an average house, and has had a solar power system on his roof for the last 11 years -- it provides 100% of his annual electricity consumption. This means that he has a net zero electricity home -- likely the 1st one in Canada! He is also on the leadership team of the Riverdale NetZero project -- one of Canada's first 12 net zero energy homes (www.riverdalenetzero.ca).
Dean G. Turgeon, RET, LEED, AP
Vital Engineering (www.Vitalengineering.ca)
Dean is the President and Founder of Vital Engineering. He brings expertise in mechanical system design and project management in commercial , institutional and industrial projects. Under his management and direction, Vital Engineering has rapidly grown as a mechanical and civil consultant in Alberta. Vital Engineering works with individuals, developers, architects, communities, businesses, and municipalities. Our knowledge of available funding mechanisms and our inherently conservative designs can bring anyone closer to living and working with less waste and energy. This integrated design process results in the lowest building life cycle cost and the healthiest interiors for occupants. We believe that sustainable development comes through changes that enhance quality of life.
